9/11/16 - The LISFL kicked off the 2016-2017 season in style on September 11, 2016 with games in each of it's divisions and 9/11 tributes held before each game. League President Gus Xikis said, "It was a great start to the 2016-2017 season. I watched 5 good games today and the referees did a good job."

Division 1

Defending champions New York Polet started the new season with a 2-2 draw against New York Irish Rovers. Fabian Santibanez and Misin Shala scored for Polet, while ElHadji Diop had 2 goals for Rovers. Polet lost 3-2 in the Reserve game to Rovers who are the defending Hertwig Cup champions. Anderson Osorio and Ivan Vulin scored for Polet while Maxwell Asante, Ryan Lang, and Christian Whitney-Smith scored for Rovers.

Glen Cove Avellino opened their campaign with a 4-1 win over Forest Park in the LISFL's traditional Glen Cove derby. Tyler de la Torre (Division 1's leading scorer for the 2014-2015 season), Miguel Martinez, Israel Quiroz, and Scott Embrey each scored for Glen Cove. The Reserve game ended in a 2-2 draw with Emmanuel Gamez and Chigo Ahunanya scoring for Glen Cove, who are defending D1 Reserve champions.

East Hampton FC defeated LISFL newcomers Kew Forest FC by a score of 2-0. Esteban Valverde and Erick Arevala each had a goal for East Hampton. The Reserve game ended in a 8-3 win for East Hampton. Luis Barrera and George Alvarado each scored twice, while Isidoro Gonzales, Michael Parra, and Erik Lopez each had a goal for East Hampton. Theo Pina scored twice and Santiago Bedoya notched one goal for Kew Forest.

Port Jefferson Fusion began life in Division 1 with a 3-0 win over New York Serbia on a hat trick by Panagiotis Kabanakis. The Fusion also won the Reserve game by a 3-1 score on goals by Brian Schanel, Brian Recurcio, and Sean Hamilton.

Defending McKim Cup champions Port Jefferson SC opened away to Real New York FC and came away with a 1-1 draw. Steven Schneider scored for Port Jefferson, while Sanjay Butler scored for Real New York. The Reserve game also ended in a 1-1 draw. Malik Simpson scored for Port Jefferson and Colin Martin Jr. scored for Real New York.

Division 2

Oceanside United began life in Division 2 with a 3-1 away win over Farmingville Portuguese. Victor Colasacco scored 1 goal and C.J. Doherty scored twice for Oceanside, while Fabio Alves scored for Farmingville.

Defending Themann Cup winners New York West Indies United began the season in dominant form with a 7-1 win over Mineola Portuguese. Herve Valcourt had a hat trick, while Fernander Demas, Jean Ade, Kevin Pluviose, and Pierre Garfil also scored for New York West Indies. Chris Goncalves scored for Mineola.

Floral Park also began in dominant form with a 8-0 win over SS Cosma Damiano. Kevin Powers led the way with a hat trick, while Evan Wagner, Justin McDougall, Sean Johnson, Juan Perez, and Alex Barbosa each scored a goal for Floral Park.

Leros won the LISFL's Greek derby 5-3 over Olympiacos NY. John Falidas and John Koutsounadis each scored twice, and Nicolaos Matheos scored once for Leros. Michael Richardson, Oscar Lugo, and Stamatis Amvrosiatos scored for Olympiacos.

Oyster Bay Park won 3-0 over South Jamaica Portuguese on goals by Jordan Contreras, Jaime Rivero, and Claudio Figueroa.

Division 3

Hicksville American SC returned to the LISFL with a 5-2 win over defending Edwards Cup winners Port Jefferson Fusion. John Dembinski scored twice, while Johnnie Maleganos, Brian Lanasa, and Nick Tuifel each scored once. Juan Gonzalez scored two goals for the Fusion.

Kosmos United CY began life in the LISFL in great fashion with a 9-3 win over NYCD Boldest Soccer FC. Sunatillo Khusanov, Ioannis Lambadarios, Rashid Allah Morad, and Karl Cesar each scored 2 goals, while Yiannis Troullouris scored once for Kosmos. Steven Bailey scored 2 goals and Przemylaw Wolosik had 1 for NYCD.

Over-30 Division

Glen Cove won their opener 1-0 over defending Reitschlin Cup winners Baisley United with a goal by Victor Avwontom in a game that was a rematch of the cup final.

Marlon Clarke scored twice for Integral Kings, but it wasn't enough as Istria won the game 3-2 on goals by Michele Giacabbone, Dariusz Kaczorowski, and William Lucas.

Defending champions New York Polet picked up a 3-1 win on the road over Garden City Centennials. Naim Kurtovic scored 1 goal and David Panchano had 2 for New York Polet. Philip Ng scored for Garden City.

Two goals by Marlon Bourne, along with a goal each from Roberto Cellucci and Cem Dumankaya gave New York Hota Bavarians a 4-1 win over Port Jefferson SC. Stanley LaRouche scored for Port Jefferson.

A hat trick by Michael Hobbs gave Lindenhurst a 3-1 win over Long Island Gaels VSP. Nathan Brill scored for the Gaels.

Polonez won on the road against Oceanside United by a score of 2-1. Grzegorz Kaplan and Adam Piechota had the goals for Polonez, while Miguel Ramos scored for Oceanside.

Over-40 Division

Polonia opened the season away to Oyster Bay Park and came away with a 4-1 win. Marek Rakowski scored 2 goals, while Gus Leon and Darek Zielonka each scored 1 for Polonia.

Defending champions Lindenhurst started the new season with a 4-0 win over Oceanside United. Anthony Fassino scored 2 goals, while William Knapp and Flavio Ferri each had 1 goal.

A hat trick by Anthony McCreath gave Baisley United a 3-0 win over Baldwin.

New York Hota Bavarians won 7-2 over Olympiacos NY. Nikola Dokic and Andreas Toliopoulos scored the goals for Olympiacos.

Over-50 Division

Defending champions Baisley United opened the new season with a 3-0 win over New York Polet / Rudar. Lennox Townsend, Sylvester Wright, and Ian Powell each scored a goal for Baisley.

Olympicaos NY won 1-0 over Polonia and defending DeLuca Cup winners New York Hota Bavarians won 3-1 over Oceanside United.
