Port Jefferson SC team before game with Kosmos United CY

10/8/17 - This week in the LISFL saw a top of the table clash in Week 5 of the league between Port Jefferson SC and Kosmos United CY. The Premier Division game took place on Saturday night under the lights in College Point as both teams battled for first place and much needed momentum heading into the first rounds of the ENYSSA and League Cup games.

Just as the family and friends of both teams had settled in and dusk had settled on the field, Mosiah Whyte struck an early goal to give Port Jefferson SC a 1-0 lead. Kosmos remained undeterred and created several chances of their own as they battled back from the early deficit. Junior Rosero also had several chances for Port Jefferson and seemingly had given his club a 2-0 lead as the ball rolled towards the goal, but bounced off the post and was cleared.

Kosmos came roaring out in the second half to tie the game at 1-1 on a goal by Evan Vlachos. The momentum continued to swing the way of Kosmos and they soon added a second goal by the resurgent Peter Touros. Port Jefferson regained some momentum of their own and created chances that tested Kosmos goalkeeper George Angelidis.

Finally, a familar scene occurred as Mosiah Whyte capitalized on the pressure and scored his division-leading eighth goal of the season. Shortly after, the whistle blew and both teams earned a hard fought point from the 2-2 draw. Port Jefferson remains top of the table with Kosmos three points behind with a game in hand.
