LISFL President Gus Xikis said, "it's a great honor for the league to have the opportunity to showcase itself to all of the soccer fans in the region. Both Port Jefferson and Glen Cove are strong teams who've have had terrific seasons. Glen Cove have won the most championships in the league's history and Port Jefferson have been the dominant team in the league the last few years. It should be a terrific game for all the local soccer fans to see."

Xikis described how the Cosmos have developed a strong working relationship with the league, "they've been terrific, especially the last year and a half. The Cosmos have gone out of their way to recognize the LISFL and the importance of adult amateur soccer to the game overall. They send representatives to our events and league meetings and it's not just about promoting their club. They want to learn about our league, the history of the game on Long Island, and how important the players and coaches of the LISFL are to the local game."

Xikis closed by saying, "I hope all local soccer fans come out to support the Cosmos on June 13 and stay to watch even a part of the LISFL game. It starts at 9:20 PM, which might be late for small children, but we'd love to see some of them stay and learn about soccer beyond the youth level."
